I’m thrilled to support Thrive Philanthropy's impactful work in promoting plant-based food systems and driving transformation by slowing factory farming.
Thrive Philanthropy
Project summary
Thrive Philanthropy catalyzes the global movement to end factory farming by strategically increasing food systems transformation efforts through movement-building and grantmaking. We work in 70+ countries and every continent except Antartica, and we primarily focus on Global South regions that have traditionally been neglected in plant-based food systems work, where factory farming has a higher chance of being decreased or slowed, and where Western dollars go further.
What are this project's goals? How will you achieve them?
To date, Thrive Philanthropy has increased the vegan food system change movement in 1 out of every 3 countries in the world (and growing) through grants and capacity.
Our movement-building project, Thrive Africa, trains about 200 advocates annually in efforts to reduce meat consumption and create animal-free local food systems. We do this through the Thrive Africa Accelerator and by conducting Africa's first pan-Africa campaigns, the Africa Vegan Restaurant Week and Africa Vegan School Lunch Campaign, and many advocates receive a grant to finance projects. This project will expand upon these efforts and train at least 100 more advocates each year.
The Thrive LATAM Accelerator and Thrive Asia Accelerator are new projects that will train at least 100 LATAM-based and 100 Asia-based advocotes in effective meat reduction campaigns, offer grants to trainees' to seed early level work, and support in fundraising efforts of seeded projects to increase longevity and likelihood of success.
How will this funding be used?
Funding will be used to cover expenses to operate the Thrive Africa Accelerator, Thrive LATAM Accelerator, and/or Thrive Asia Accelerator. Expenses include software and salaries.
Who is on your team? What's your track record on similar projects?
We have a BIPOC-majority and women-majority team from USA, Nepal, India, New Zealand, Uganda, Kenya, and the Philippines. Our CEO and Founder has been working in the animal philanthropy space for nearly 15 years and has a Master's in Biostatistics, Master's in Program Evaluation, and a Bachelor's in Evolutionary Biology. All team members have several years experience in the farmed animal welfare space and many are founders of high-impact organizations.
We also have a 15 member global Board of Directors, Global Advisory Committee, and Regional Funding Steering Committees with members from over 20 countries. All BIPOC majority.
Find our team here: https://www.thrivephilanthropy.org/team/
Track record of similar projects: Since 2020, the Thrive Africa Accelerator has supported over 200 advocates in catalyzing campaign skills and receiving funding, and we have observed the meat reduction movement significantly grow across Africa over this time.
What are the most likely causes and outcomes if this project fails?
The Africa, LATAM, and Asia meat reduction movements will not increase as quickly as they could.
What other funding are you or your project getting?
We are receiving funding from private donors for partial expenses of Thrive Africa Accelerator but as of August 2024, we are not receiving any funding for the Thrive LATAM Accelerator or Thrive Asia Accelerator.

I have been incredibly excited by how Thrive Philanthropy focuses on some of the most underfunded regions globally. It seems like they've made rapid progress, and I'm very impressed by the footprint of their work. I think Thrive Philanthropy's approach to the work to end factory farming globally is rather unique among funders, and it seems like the Thrive team is investing in many initiatives that simply wouldn't get funded otherwise. I'm grateful for the Thrive Philanthropy team, and hope they are able to continue scaling up the funding they have for grants globally.

I have known Thrive Philanthropy for 4 years now, knowing their works in animal protection against brutality through promoting vegan movement through out the world. Today we are in preparation of AFRICAN VEGAN RESTAURANT WEEK coming on 2 - 8 Sept 2024 because of their efforts in sensitizing and mobilizing other organizations to join the movement.

I want to express my deep gratitude to Thrive Philanthropy for their unwavering dedication to advancing plant-based just food systems across Africa. Their steadfast commitment to empowering women advocates through leadership development and advocacy skills is truly remarkable. At a time when Africa's rich tradition of plant-based living is under threat from external dietary influences, Thrive's support has been crucial in restoring and preserving these invaluable cultural practices for sustainability and healthy living.
