Project summary
RESUMIDO is a weekly technology podcast and newsletter that I have been running since 2019. RESUMIDO has over 370 episodes and it looks at how technology changes society. RESUMIDO is #1 in News & Commentary on Apple Podcasts Brazil it has a rating of 4.9 out of 5. It has been played and downloaded more than 3.1 million times. This project will fund an AI series that will be part of the RESUMIDO ecosystem.
What are this projects goals? How will you achieve them?
The plan is a six part series that looks at how power's concentrated in AI how AI affects jobs and machines how information can be kept honest how people can share tasks with machines how rules will be set and how the Global South can shape how AI is built. Each part is a set of media: one podcast episode, one newsletter and short clips for Instagram and LinkedIn. All parts come from one researched script. Use Brazilian examples. The tone of RESUMIDO is calm not sensational or alarmist. RESUMIDO uses journalism and informed public pressure not campaigning for a pause. RESUMIDO keeps editorial control.
How will you know it worked?
I will measure success against RESUMIDO’s baselines. The usual completion rate of a RESUMIDO episode is 70 percent. 46.4 Percent of listeners stay with RESUMIDO each week. The core audience is strong: 82 percent of Spotify listeners during the time already knew RESUMIDO and came back to the show. Success means the new series will meet or exceed these numbers on reach and completion. It will also bring listeners and give signals that are qualitative: press articles, invitations and use of the material by teachers and leaders. I will be honest that it is hard to prove that a single piece of content lowers extinction risk.
How will this funding be used?
The money will go to a six part series that lasts three months. Editorial and hosting will cost 10,000. Production and post‑production for the team will cost 5,000. Design will cost 2,500. Video editing and subtitles in Portuguese and English will cost 2,500. A contingency of 2,000 will cover costs. If the grant is smaller RESUMIDO will reduce the number of parts in proportion.
Who is on your team? What's your track record on projects?
I am a technology journalist and documentary maker. I earned a Master’s degree from Goldsmiths, University of London. I worked for MIT Technology Review. I edited the first printed edition of Wired in Brazil. Since 2019 I have grown RESUMIDO into a multi‑platform set that includes a podcast, a newsletter, social media and live events. RESUMIDO has a following of about 65,000 people across all channels and more than 500 paying subscribers. I appear regularly on GloboNews on Fantástico and on the podcast O Assunto. The small production team is Cauê Marques and Hugo Guimarães Rocha. I have spoken at SXSW, TEDx, TechCrunch Disrupt, Web Summit and Cannes Lions Innovation.
What are the likely causes and outcomes if this project fails?
Failure is not about not delivering. RESUMIDO keeps releasing episodes every week. The real risk is that the impact is small because awareness of AI spreads in ways and is hard to measure. I also say clearly that RESUMIDO is journalism, not safety research or a call for a pause. If some funders want a causal link they may not see what they expect. If the project fails it will fail in scale and in how it can be measured not in producing content.
How money have you raised in the last 12 months and from where?
RESUMIDO makes money from brand ads. From paid subscriptions more than 500 paying subscribers. RESUMIDO also has a partnership with inovabra (Bradesco). Has had sponsors such as Insider, PUCPR, Qustodio, NordVPN. Total revenue, for the twelve months was 20,000.00 USD. I do not rely on this grant; the project already. It earns money.
