About Me

Pedro Bentancour Garin is the founder and CEO of Lisa Intel, a Delaware C-Corp building one of the first integrated global infrastructures for AI governance, safety, and ethical oversight. With a unique academic background that combines engineering, humanities research, political science, and complex systems, Pedro brings an interdisciplinary perspective rarely found in the AI sector. He has spent more than 20 years working with research, ethics, governance, innovation, and cross-domain problem solving, which has shaped Lisa Intel’s systemic and human-centered approach to advanced AI safety.

Before founding Lisa Intel, Pedro conducted research at the doctoral level in the humanities, including international work at institutions such as Oxford, Melbourne, the Getty Center in Los Angeles, and major European academic centers. His technical foundation comes from a engineering, he has also studiesmd political science, governance, and philosophy. This combination has enabled him to design a governance architecture for AI that is both technically grounded and aligned with human rights, ethical principles, and long-term societal stability.

Pedro leads Lisa Intel as a founder committed to global cooperation and responsible technological development. He has filed multiple patents covering AI oversight, containment, research automation, and ethical control systems, with more on the way. Under his leadership, Lisa Intel has been accepted into the Dubai Founders HQ program and recognized by government agencies, research institutions, and investors for its potential to become a global standard for safe and aligned AI. Pedro’s work is driven by a deep conviction that AI must be built to strengthen human flourishing, protect democratic values, and ensure that future generations inherit a safe and stable technological world.

How fragmented our knowledge is on this subject is seen just last week in two different opinions:

In a discussion on March 5, 2026, author Michael Pollan argued that we are increasingly "projecting consciousness" onto AI entities that do not possess it. He suggests that while AI can mimic human intelligence, it lacks the biological "machinery" for genuine awareness, and humans need "consciousness hygiene" to distinguish between real human interaction and algorithmic mimicry.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei stated that the company can no longer definitively rule out consciousness in its model, Claude. Interestingly, Claude reportedly assigned itself a 15% to 20% probability of being sentient during internal testing.

This highlights how important the study I propose is for the field.

@Ella A few studies point this way, but no one has really studied it directly. Everyone just assume that advanced intelligence "magically" leads to conciousness. But it's probably more complicated than that.

Empirical evidence that performance illusions are mistaken for cognition, supporting the architectural view of agency rather than emergent consciousness. Paper from Apple:
