Project summary

My laptop has stopped working, which is currently preventing me from doing EA-aligned research, writing, and applications. I’m requesting funding for a reliable laptop so I can continue biosecurity/governance upskilling, produce writing samples, and apply for biosecurity and policy-related roles.

What are this project's goals?

I plan to focus on policy and governance work, particularly in biosecurity and biodefence. This includes research, writing samples, coursework, and applications to fellowships and internships and jobs related to biosecurity and mentor university group organisers for CEA's organiser support programme .My current laptop has stopped functioning, which has halted this work entirely. I do not currently have access to institutional equipment, or a full time job.

This is an individual project. I have experience in community building, events, research, and policy-adjacent work, and I am transitioning into law to pursue biodefence and governance work.

How will this funding be used?

The funding will be used to purchase a laptop for full-time use in research, writing, applications, and policy preparation.
My previous laptop is over 10 years old and no longer functional for modern workloads. I’m requesting a machine that will reliably last through multiple years of intensive use (research, writing, data-heavy documents, video calls, and policy coursework for upcoming post graduate studies), rather than needing replacement again in the near future. The higher memory and storage are intended to future-proof the device and reduce the risk of downtime during time-sensitive work.
With minimum funding ($1,300):I would purchase a Mac that allows me to resume basic work, applications, and study, though with limited longevity .With full funding ($2,300): I would purchase a Mac with sufficient memory and storage to last through several years of work, policy preparation, and postgraduate study, reducing long-term costs and interruptions.
