We want to host an international online competition for undergraduate students to develop new lightweight solutions for AI-based Human fall and recovery detection on the Human Fall and Recovery Detection (METU-HFRD) Dataset. This practice will help students use AI/ML to solve real-world problems and support human care.
The goal is to promote the use of AI for the Benefit of Humans. Undergraduate students can gain hands-on experience in an international competition where students worldwide will compete to perform Human Fall and Recovery Detection for Elderly Care using AI. On top of that, it will result in some new, interesting solutions that can be integrated into home IP-based cameras to perform Elderly care.
We are proposing an online competition where we will invite students and professionals from around the world to participate. We will also offer prize money and host an event to invite practitioners for awareness. At the event, we will announce the winners and broadcast it live on YouTube from Middle East Technical University.
The funds will be used to organise the event, advertise it, provide souvenirs to the volunteers and guests, and award prizes to the 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-place student teams.
I am an academic and co-director of the Advanced Research Centre for IoT and Communication Systems located at Middle East Technical University. Our research centre and all the student participants will volunteer for the event. We have organised similar events in the past, including GAMEJAMs for students, which resulted in multiple startup companies in mobile game development.

We are generating money for the online competition. We already have the Dataset and already have some students working on it. So, the online competition is planned to promote the dataset and to create awareness among the undergraduate students. If we don't get funded, we will be unable to get the competition done.
We have very recently secured a number of international research funding awards through competitive processes, among them grants from the International Science Partnerships Fund (amounting to £80,000), the National Research Foundation of Korea (£450,000), the Québec Merit Scholarship programme (£35,000), and the AdımODTÜ research programmes.
