I'm Habeeb Abdul, Policy Lead at PauseAI Nigeria. I'm also co-founder of AI Safety Hub Nigeria (250+ members) and founder of EA ABU. I was recently accepted to attend PauseCon, PauseAI's training conference for organisers and members working to prevent the development of unsafe AI, running 5–7 September 2026 in London.
Participation is free and PauseAI covers three nights of accommodation, but travel from Nigeria is not covered. I've already checked with the organisers about sponsoring my trip, and they confirmed their budget doesn't stretch to cover travel costs this time.
This request is to fund my return flight and related travel costs (local transport) so I can attend in person, take part in the workshops, and bring the skills and connections back to Nigeria — to strengthen organising capacity and scale PauseAI Nigeria's community-building efforts.
The goal is to attend PauseCon in person and return with the organising skills, campaign frameworks, and network needed to grow PauseAI Nigeria into a more active, capable chapter. I'll achieve this by taking part in the full three days of workshops and training sessions, connecting directly with organisers from other PauseAI chapters to learn what has and hasn't worked for them, and bringing that back into concrete next steps for PauseAI Nigeria.
Return flight, Abuja–London: ~$1,200–$1,500 (September is the most expensive month on this route)

This is an individual request, but it's tied directly to the organisations I help run. I'm Policy Lead at PauseAI Nigeria, co-founder and Research and Technical Lead of AI Safety Hub Nigeria (250+ members), and founder of EA ABU. I'm also an AI Evaluation and Safety Research intern at HeyLina.ai (UK, remote), where I've worked on multi-turn actor/judge LLM evaluation harnesses. I was part of the team for the Global South AI Safety Hackathon, which led to an invitation to apply to Apart Lab Studio.
The most likely failure mode is simply not raising enough for the flight, in which case I won't be able to attend and PauseAI Nigeria loses this specific opportunity for organiser training — though the chapter's existing work would continue as before. There's no risk of misused funds: if I don't raise the amount needed, I won't book the trip, and I'll update the listing accordingly.
