AI will accelerate everything: science, code, thinking, everything downstream. this is both good and bad. Our epistemic infrastructure, the tools and institutions we use to figure out what is true, was not built for this. AI also gives us an opportunity to rethink and expand our design spaces of the epistemic infra.

I am accelerating epistemic capabilities starting with science, where each research paper is an autonomous ai agent that self-maintains its own epistemics. The research paper-agent talks to other research paper-agents and updates its confidence on the claims it makes.

The paper-agent can also reproduce its own, addressing the replication crisis in science.

What are this project's goals? How will you achieve them?

• proof-of-concept: a network of paper-agents that maintains coherence about its own claims.

• Do parallel applied research on how LLMs relate to truth and architecture design that keeps human in the loop.

• Northstar: Build an open-source epistemic infrastrcuture that can be used both by human-agents and by AI-agents for human+AI scientific research and discoveries.

How will this funding be used?

• My own salary.

• Compute (LLM api calls / subscriptions)

• Tooling

With the minimum funding ask of $2500: I would use it for compute. With maximum funding ask of $20000: I would get personal runway for a few months to continuing to build this.

• Paper-agent network does not give any interesting network level behavior.
