Project summary
Hello, my name is Antsokiya Tesfaye and I’m a medical doctor from Ethiopia. I’ve spent the last several years working toward a career in neuroscience. I was recently accepted into the Science Diplomacy, Neuroscience, Technology, and Society (SDNTS) School, an advanced training program organised by IBRO, PEDECIBA, and UNESCO, taking place in Montevideo, Uruguay, from December 7–18, 2026.
This is a huge opportunity for me and I will be damned if I let it pass, which is why I came here. The program focuses on neurodiplomacy and the regulation of emerging neurotechnologies. It is one of the most relevant opportunities I have found for the kind of neuroscience career I am trying to build.
The organisers have offered to support the costs associated with participating in the school, including visa and everything, if I can cover the travel expenses. I need to secure my international airfare from Addis Ababa to Montevideo, which is currently estimated at around $2500 USD
What are this project's goals? How will you achieve them?
My goal is to gather funding to cover my travel costs.
How will this funding be used?
It will exclusively be used to cover the airfare tickets.
Who is on your team? What's your track record on similar projects?
I am the only person who will be attending the school.
What are the most likely causes and outcomes if this project fails?
I won't be able to attend, not because I didn't deserve to be there but because I can't afford it . I am really tired of missing opportunities because I can't afford to cover some costs.
I won't be able to advance in my career.
How much money have you raised in the last 12 months, and from where?
I have raised 900 USD in external support for my digital health project. I raised it through Bridge for Billions Health Track, where NeuroNest was selected among the top 10 projects and received a prize.
My acceptance documentation and correspondence with the organisers are available for verification.
The School runs from December 7–18, 2026
Location: Montevideo, Uruguay
Amount needed: $2500 USD
Deadline to confirm in-person attendance: Late October 2026
