Campaigns for governments to ban the development of superintelligent AI, briefing lawmakers in the UK, US and elsewhere.
ControlAI is a nonprofit campaign working to prevent human extinction from superintelligent AI by getting governments to prohibit its development. It briefs lawmakers directly, and says it has met over 400 across the US, UK, Canada and Germany, including more than 200 US congressional offices. It also runs public campaigns: it says over 150,000 supporters have sent more than 200,000 messages to their representatives. Its policy paper "A Narrow Path" sets out how countries could keep superintelligence from being built.
Its main campaign is in the UK. Its Artificial Superintelligence Security Bill, which would ban superintelligent AI at home and set an international policy, was introduced in the House of Commons as a Ten-Minute Rule Bill in September 2026, and more than 85 MPs and peers have called on the Prime Minister to adopt it. ControlAI was founded in London in 2023 by Andrea Miotti, its CEO, who previously worked at the AI safety startup Conjecture. Conjecture co-founder Connor Leahy is its US executive director.
